CGST Chief Commissioner Optimistic About Tripura’s GST Revenue Growth

Kul Prakash Singh, Chief Commissioner of CGST and Customs, Guwahati Zone, has visited several states across the Northeast since assuming responsibility for the region. He is currently on a visit to Tripura and addressed the media at the GST Bhawan in Agartala on Tuesday morning, expressing optimism over the state's GST collections and future trade prospects. This is his first visit to Tripura since assuming charge.

The Chief Commissioner expressed satisfaction and optimism over the present level of GST collection in Tripura, expressing hope that revenue collection would increase further in the coming days. He also urged business owners to fulfil their tax obligations alongside conducting their commercial activities. He emphasised that by paying taxes regularly, the business community could make an important contribution to the economic development of both the state and the country.

Meanwhile, responding to a question on when import and export trade with Bangladesh could commence through Maitri Setu and the Sabroom Land Port, Singh said that the matter would depend on decisions taken by the Central Government and the Government of Bangladesh. Further steps in this regard would be determined by the decisions of both governments.

Although Maitri Setu and Sabroom hold considerable potential for cross-border trade, no specific timeline has yet been indicated for the commencement of commercial operations. The business community and other stakeholders are therefore awaiting decisions from both governments.
