CJP Seeks to Strengthen Its Base in Tripura, Plans Youth-Led Campaigns on Public Issues

Agartala:: The CJP has taken steps to strengthen its organisational base in Tripura and mobilise young people to raise various social and civic issues affecting the state. The organisation has outlined plans to build a strong, non-political platform of youths to campaign on issues such as unemployment, healthcare, education and electricity services. The plans were announced by its leaders at a press conference organised by the CJP's Tripura unit at Agartala Press Club on Wednesday.

CJP leader Shahid and Noor Shah, a leader of the organisation from Manipur, attended the press conference. Tripura-based representatives Shubham, Pranab and Aprajit, along with other volunteers, were also present. Shahid said the organisation was holding discussions with volunteers and working to expand its network not only in Tripura but also in other northeastern states. As part of this initiative, he had visited Tripura and held discussions with local volunteers.

The meeting focused on strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level and exploring ways to raise regional concerns and address various demands of students. Shahid said unemployment, shortcomings in healthcare, problems in the education system and electricity-related issues were among the major concerns facing the people of Tripura, particularly its youth. Bringing young people together on these issues and creating a strong platform to raise their concerns would be the organisation's primary objective, he said.

Clarifying the organisation's position, Shahid maintained that CJP was not affiliated with any political party and intended to function as a non-political pressure group. He said every government, irrespective of the party in power, must abide by the Constitution and remain accountable to the people.

He further stated that the organisational structure of the Tripura unit and its future action plan would be finalised and presented to the media within the next few days. Tripura youth representative Shubham said young people in the state were facing several challenges. He said the initiative aimed to bring them together to highlight these concerns and work towards the development of Tripura.

Responding to questions from journalists, the organisation's leaders also expressed their views on the electoral process and democratic rights. They alleged that instances of political horse-trading and defections by legislators since 2014, leading to changes in governments, had weakened the country's democratic system. They also called for the protection of voting rights and reforms in the electoral process, stressing that elections must be conducted in accordance with the Constitution and democratic rights must be safeguarded.

The press conference concluded with a call to organise the youth and sustain campaigns on issues concerning public welfare. The extent to which the CJP's Tripura unit can translate its announced plans into a grassroots organisational programme and mobilise young people across the state remains to be seen.
