CPI(M) Protests Outside State Election Commission Over Nomination Obstruction, Attack Allegations

The CPI(M) staged a protest outside the office of the Tripura State Election Commission, alleging that Left Front candidates were being obstructed from filing nomination papers and facing attacks in several areas ahead of the upcoming urban local body elections.

The protest was organised over alleged incidents in Mohanpur, Jirania, Ranirbazar, Kamalpur and Santirbazar, where Left Front candidates reportedly faced resistance and attacks while attempting to submit their nomination papers.

CPI(M) leaders Manik Dey and Ratan Das, along with other party leaders, were present during the demonstration. The protesters strongly criticised the role of the State Election Commission, alleging that it had failed to ensure the opposition candidates' right to file nominations without obstruction.

The demonstrators maintained that ensuring equal opportunities and adequate security for all political parties is a fundamental responsibility of the Election Commission. However, despite allegations of attacks and obstruction in several areas, the Commission had allegedly failed to take effective action.

The CPI(M) also questioned whether free and peaceful elections could be ensured under the prevailing circumstances. The Left leadership demanded immediate intervention by the State Election Commission to safeguard the transparency, fairness and impartiality of the electoral process.
