NDA to Fight Civic Polls Together; Final Decision on Seat-Sharing by Monday Night: Ratan Lal Nath

Agartala, The NDA has decided to contest the upcoming civic elections in Tripura, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation polls, unitedly with all its alliance partners. This was announced by Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Sunday after an important meeting between representatives of the BJP and the Tipra Motha. However, a final decision on the proposals put forward by the alliance partner will be taken by Monday night after consultations within the BJP, he said.

Ratan Lal Nath said the meeting was convened with the objective of ensuring that all NDA constituents jointly contest the upcoming municipal corporation, municipal council and nagar panchayat elections. He recalled that the NDA partners had fought the recent Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) banner together. Drawing on that experience, Tipra Motha had expressed its willingness to contest the forthcoming civic polls as part of the alliance.

The minister said the BJP had held internal discussions on Tipra Motha's proposal. As directed by the party leadership, BJP representatives subsequently met their counterparts from the alliance partner to hear their views and proposals in detail. He described the discussions as cordial and productive.

The BJP delegation was led by Minister Ratan Lal Nath, along with other party representatives. Tipra Motha was represented by Biswajit Barma, Ranjit Debbarma, Ananta Chandra Jamatia and Prashanta Shil, Nath said.

The minister made it clear that both sides had reached an understanding on contesting the forthcoming civic elections together under the NDA banner. However, no final decision has yet been taken on the specific proposals submitted by Tipra Motha. The matter will be discussed with the BJP's party leadership, and the final decision is expected by Monday night.

After the meeting, Nath also referred to the political rally held the previous day. Claiming that it had drawn a massive turnout, he said the gathering was so large that even media cameras and drones could not capture the full extent of the procession. Hinting at larger political programmes in the coming days, he also asked the media to remain prepared.

With the civic elections approaching, the BJP-Tipra Motha meeting has assumed significance in the state's alliance politics. While the two parties have agreed to contest together, the final arrangement over seat-sharing and the proposals submitted by the alliance partner remain unresolved. The political focus is now on the decision expected by Monday night.
