Agartala, October 9: The Tripura government has adopted a new advertisement policy for the media, introducing significant changes to the existing framework. The new policy categorises newspapers, news outlets and media platforms into three groups—Large, Medium and Small—according to the criteria identified by the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department.

ICA Department Secretary Kiran Gitte and Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya outlined the new advertisement policy at the Civil Secretariat on Friday evening.

Under the revised framework, newspapers must meet specified daily viewership thresholds according to their category. Small newspapers are required to have a daily viewership of more than 5,000, Medium newspapers more than 10,000 and Large newspapers more than 20,000.

The new framework also addresses ground-level news networks and websites operating in Tripura. Such platforms will be required to meet proportionate viewership criteria under the corresponding classification system.

The revised policy marks a departure from the previous advertising guidelines, with several changes introduced to the existing rules. The categorisation establishes different eligibility benchmarks for media outlets, linking their classification to specified audience reach.

The policy is expected to shape the framework under which government advertisements are allocated to newspapers, news networks and digital media platforms in the state.

With the introduction of the new categories and audience thresholds, the implementation of the revised guidelines will be important for media organisations seeking government advertisements under the new system.
